  1. Love this topic. Please do more content around life with multiple dogs. As a single dog “mom” I think having multiple dogs takes a lot of pressure off of me to constantly be exercising and mentally challenging them, they daily play chase and keep away with each other. Would love videos of you intervening with multiple dogs and helping them to recognize each others boundaries and play in a healthy way. I have male dogs and they play together but sometimes I think it gets a little too intense. Would love to know what some red flags are when dogs are playing too rough, and are those flags the same when it comes to “brothers” as opposed to playmates. Thanks for the great content.

  2. Excellent video. I have one dog that loves new people & dogs. The other is very sensitive to new interactions. I’ve found it best to introduce my little socialite first so my big nervous girl sees that new friends are fun. And ALWAYS give them the option to use me for a safe spot or remove her if she’s overwhelmed.

  3. More of that! We have 3 rescue dogs (2 BC, 1 Cockapoo) and now we’re helping the local dog sanctuary with fostering their overflow.
My issue is, that my dogs on their own are the bestest dogs, but in the pack, the pack dynamics take over…

  4. Here’s what my family did with our dog and quarantine puppy; a family that is friends of ours had an unexpected litter of puppies they didn’t want to keep, so when they were old enough, we loaded our current dog into the car and went to pick one out. Our dog was introduced to the mother of the puppies and the litter and he helped us pick out our favorite. From there, as the new puppy grew, we made sure both dogs knew how to drop toys so that if a fight arose over one we could simply remove it from the picture. We also taught them a “break it up” command by intervening when the adult dogs play got a bit rough for the puppy and praising with “good break it up” when they separated. Now we can even use “break it up” to call our dogs back if they get into a fight with another dog!

  5. One of the issues I have now that I have introduced a puppy to my 3 year-old dog is that they are both vocal (even alone). The play growling they both do often quickly spirals into full on wrestling matches (and now the WWE kind) lol.

  6. Yay Zak! More videos like this please!
Also, could you make a video that is like a “one-stop-shop” for activities to mentally stimulate your dog? I know obviously training and sniffing challenges are some, but I’d like more ideas!

  7. An interesting thing has happen while training our new standard poodle puppy. Our older dogs have essentially demoed tricks and behaviors for the puppy that helps her learn. The pup sees how the older dogs are doing things and getting rewards/praise for it so she’ll copy them.

  8. It took a while to figure out why my dog was usually fine with other dogs and other times was a bit aggressive and fearful. After some time we realized it was only when she needed to poop. May be helpful for others. I don’t know if there are known counter conditioning options for that, but it makes meeting new dogs much easier if I just ensure the tank is empty.

    1. Mine is starting to bark and behave aggressively when the other dog is bigger or has more testosterone. He is quite often fearful when there are things he‘s not seen before. E.g the grill, when the wind was blowing it‘s cover. Occasionally he still barks at it when too windy. He is also often resource guarding (e.g his stick) even though we almost never take away anything from him, and give it back to him (we’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old).

  9. I really enjoyed this video even though I only have one dog. I was wondering if you could do a video that has a bunch of ideas for mental stimulation in it, including ideas for when it is too hot/too cold for the dogs to go outside. Even if it was just editing together different portions of old videos to make one dedicated video (a one-stop-shop, so to speak) would be really helpful although I’m sure you have plenty of ideas to make a newer and more current video! Also, how to exercise your dog when it’s too hot/cold outside would be a great video as well, especially for brachycephalic dogs who can become overheated easily. Thanks for all you do! 💜

  10. My older dog (well… only 2 years old at the time) did not love the puppy I brought in. We spend a lot of time making the interactions positive and keeping distance and nowadays they are like brothers!

  11. I really like these short videos that deal with one topic. Easy to watch and serves as a “how to” video. Fortunately I this is not problem I have. When our older dog died, our 3 yr old lab was so lonely. I decided to get a puppy because I did not want another dog to try to compete with her as alpha as she is so timid I knew she did not have it in her to defend her position. When we brought him home she immediately went over to him and tried to engage him in play. She loves him so much. Getting her a dog was one of the best decisions we had ever made and they get along beautifully. Would love to see more videos in this format.

  12. I have 3 dogs; one is a red heeler mix, one is an Aussie mix and one is a bullmastiff mix. Our red heeler has territory issues which includes not letting our other dogs drink water or lay on any of their 3 beds and has started some fights with our other dogs. Because of the severity of the fights we can’t let them see each other or be in the same room.

  13. I liked this Video! Also more than others lately. More focused on a matter. When I got my second dog I would have been glad to find such a video.
You asked about Videos for the future. In my estimate this kind of Video is quite good. And very useful if you search for something specific. Thats how I found your channel in the first place.
But as critique i would like to bring in that its “nothing” new for long time viewer. I am a big fan of redundancies, and having this as a summary is quite helpful as well. Although I prefer redundancies with new footage. Its more entertaining in my perspective.
Also what I miss in this Video in comparison of older videos is the “challange”. In this video was no arc of suspense whether and how you will solve it. No problem to be solved. I don’t want to say that this is always needed. But I would like to have such videos too.

  14. This was a really well crafted video to help understand things from the dogs perspective and the importance of management. I have a quick question and noticed you didn’t include this in the video. When you was training George, he became a bit to rough with Inertia and you used a spatial pressure and a correction for him to stop, this must of been aversive towards him as he actually stopped his behavior. You then offered an alternative behavior and rewarded. Is using corrections ‘Force-Free’? and would there of been positive reinforcement based way to tackle that?

  15. Appreciate the specific-topic troubleshooting format. I also appreciate the sponsored content at the end. It flows much more seamlessly.
My dog is fabulous, but he thinks dog friends exist to play with him. I manage and redirect him a lot because he just becomes more excited when other dogs say “no.”

  16. Would love to see more training videos geared towards multiple dog households! I have two dogs that are sisters from the shelter and they can be very tricky to train simultaneously but separating them for twice the training time is hard to manage as well

  17. I have a Bait Dog that was rescued from the Texas fight… Doing better with reactivity and we’re still working on some separation anxiety issues ~ though he goes to his trauma response fairly quickly with some to what extent I’ve had to unlatch him from scruff a couple of times… Socializing as much as we can but i fear that off-leash parks or no where near our immediate future 😔

  18. Great vid! One day, I would love a multi-dog household. Our current dog wouldn’t do well with another dog around, so it’s a far in the future dream 😆 It does seem daunting having to work with each dog & hope they get along okay
