  1. My family just adopted a 10 week old black lab puppy. While we were at the breeders house, we brought a small stuffed alligator and rubbed it on the other dogs so it would smell like her family. When we got back to our house we placed the toy in the crate and she walked right in. We gently closed and she just sat there and played with the alligator. Now she loves to be in her crate because her alligator is in there. This method works really well.

    1. I know she is older now but did she grow out of it? I’m wondering because I want to do this but I don’t want my dog to miss their family too much.

  2. I’m going to adopt a rescue dog, and trying to learn the best way to introduce him to family life.  Thanks for the good beginning

  3. I had a labrador puppy and we got him from someone who was unable to keep him, he was three months old when we got him and he was almost perfectly potty trained, other than the whole marking his territory when he first got there and sometimes excitement, he was even already trained to ring a bell instead of bark! Miss you Hank!!

  4. got our crate today. I’ve seriously watched this vid about 4 times just to make sure I get it right for him lol he was super cool with the crate right away. it’s awesome. thank you for the tips!

  5. Kind of still working on it. My dog is almost fully trained. He doesn’t exactly tell us when he wants to go a lot. He only goes inside the house if he needs to go really bad.

  6. I’m not the best at house training my dog, so it’s been over a year and he still haven’t learnt. But its probably because he started as an adult

    1. Zack, I used the other half for pooping for my dog,she eats her own poops..so not a good idea…zack I want to train my dog poty indoor, but she just won’t go on pad..how do I get her to do on pad…

    2. Our puppy (8 weeks) currently thinks of his pet carrier as his crate. And we’ve put it in sideways (open door) to one of the side doors of a larger crate. The larger crate has his food/water/toys and has a couple of puppy pads as just in case. Would this set up be reasonable? So far we’ve listened fairly carefully overnight and waited until he started moving around to take him out to potty. But I’m not sure if it’s better to wake him up every 3 hours rather than wait for him to make a move. Thoughts? Really appreciate your videos – they’ve made having a new puppy much more predictable!

    3. Hey, Zak! A 4 month old puppy was added to the family. He doesn’t hate the crate but as soon as I leave the room he starts whining. How do I go about curbing this problem?

  8. She’s chosen a side of terrace to go and now it’s difficult to make her forget that area and listen to what and where I’m asking her to go😢

  9. Here’s an additional tip:
Everytime they potty in the right place, say a cute phrase like “hurry up” or “go potty” and praise them. This will teach them that when you are on lead and it’s a time sensitive matter (i.e. during travel, hotel stays, etc) the dog will know what you want him or her to do.

Also, after the dog is finished using the bathroom, spend a few more seconds sniffing and walking around so they dont think you’ll be going inside as soon as they finish because then they may start holding it so they can stay outside longer lol. Dogs are smart!
