One of Wish’s favorite games #dogtraining #dogtrainer #bordercollie

My border collie wish used to be anxious in the car from time to time if we went to new locations. She could tell as soon as we left the areas she knew, that we were somewhere new. Even if she wasn’t looking out the window. I am pretty good at teaching dogs to be calm, but wish was really stressing out from time to time in the car. One day I just decided to ask her if she wanted to howl and she really enjoyed it and immediately settled afterwards. So now, from time to time I ask her questions while we’re driving. Usually if she’s in the back, but this time she was in the front, so I got to film it. I saw some viral video where a guy tells his dog he’s going on a road trip, and then says woo hoo, and wish loves that game. It settles her right down and gets her in a positive state of mind.

Has anyone else had experience with asking their dog to howl and it helping them relax?

Ps, my dogs are usually in crates in the car but For some reason my back of my van was not opening.

  1. Omg, after the first howl my first thought was “Quincy we are going on a road trip WOOOO”…and im so glad you had the same idea because i didnt realise i needed Wish to do it ❤

    1. No. They don’t know the difference between a human food and dog food. Actually buy feeding a variety of different types of food makes dogs less obsessive about novelty food.
