  1. Thank you ladies! Carol, I enjoy when you are on. You inspire me and my Malinois mix to keep going. Training is so much better. We are out everyday in public. In it for the long haul.❀

    1. We live in the mountains, so my pup has had very limited exposure to other people. Being a lab, she wants to to jump and lick and get all over our elderly neighbor when she comes over. I need to focus on training this skill by asking friends to visit and help, day after day.

  2. So you’re trying to distract the dog with food instead of the other dog. You’re doing that by calling their name. What if they are so focused on the other dog they ignore you? Then what? As soon as my dog sees another dog, they don’t even know I’m on the other end of the leash.

    1. I tried even steak, my dog is not food, or toy motivated, good luck with treats (tried at least 100 different treats, not working).

    2. @Ágnes Mészåros-Matwiejuk yeah my dog can care less about anything but the other dog or person walking by. Treats arent gonna work by themselves. What I find is that even me standing in front of the dog between the distraction with a treat works for a few minutes maybe.

    3. @Ágnes MĂ©szĂĄros-Matwiejukjust use her food. She has to eat something at some point, so toss the food bowl into the garbage and wait for her to be willing to *work* for it. It may take a day or two but it’s so worth it!

  3. This was very helpful. I see that I’ve been making several mistakes and reinforcing the unwanted behavior. My Boston terrier is extremely hardheaded when he wants what he wants. I’ve got some work to do on my partnn

  4. What if your dog is not food driven? I have tried every kind of treat down to high reward treats such as cooked chicken etc, but if there is another dog in view, my dog is so overly excited and that dog is all that they care about. (No matter how far away) if they can see them. For reference, My dog’s intent is in no way aggressive toward other dogs, but overly eager to want to go play with them. I have also tried special toys and play to distract as well with no success. Thank you!! 🙂
