  1. How do you get over losing a dog? I had to put my dog down last year and I just can’t get over the heartbreak. I’ve been told getting a new dog helps with the healing, but I’m so scared to experience this grief all over again some day. I’ve had family dogs all my life, but this was the first time she was truly my dog, and it just hit different.

(Btw, I also trained her using all your positive reinforcement techniques, and she did the most amazing tricks. The one that impressed everyone the most was when she would bark the answer to a math problem- which you know was actually just about maintaining eye contact. 🙂 So thank you for strengthening my bond with her.)

  2. Thanks for taking a look at our questions. How do you train out reactivity or minimize the severity of it? I walk my dogs together and one will react strongly with another dog behind a gate or other dogs on a walk. My other dog reacts to him by growling and barking at him in some way of telling him to “calm down, stop reacting to random dogs.” He’s 5 and we just adopted him 3 months ago. Training him daily but not much progression in that. Our other dog is 1.5 Thanks a ton. Even if this isn’t answered, thanks for reading this at least.

  3. Hi, I’ve been trying to desensitise my new rescue dog to a busy main road nearby. I have been rewarding with treats and praise as he shows a willingness to come towards the road and have had him on a long training lead so that he can choose to come closer or not. However, I seem to have taught him to go backwards then forward again to get more treats. Am I moving too fast, should I just shorten the leash so he can’t go backwards or should I reward only when he stays close for a while? Any input/ help would be welcome x

  4. Help Needed: My dog has lived with us since February 2021. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. He’s my dog but my parents also live with us and he’s quite attached to both of them, especially my Dad. My Dad has either been teaching remotely or on sabbatical (at our house) for my dog’s entire life. Next week my Dad is leaving the country for 10 weeks and I’m wondering if there’s any way to prepare and/or comfort my dog? Or maybe things to be on the lookout for? He’s been with my Dad every day of his life so far and I’m a little worried that his absence might be distressing. Or I could be overthinking it. Any input you have is welcome. 💜 ETA: My Mom and I will be at home with my dog and he will continue his doggie daycare routine.

  5. Our dog hates a neighbor’s dog. She will flip out as soon as she sees the other dog from even 50+ yards away. How can we bring peace to our block?

  6. My 5 year old dog has developed anxiety. Before fireworks wouldn’t bother him but now if he thinks he hears something that sounds like a boom he shakes and tries to hide under a bed. Any advice?

  7. Thanks for all your work! My baby boy Aston, a Lurcher, has made soooo much progress in his training, thanks to your content! My Q is re: barking when left alone. This intermitent, and I always walk/exercise him before we leave the house and he has his kong too! Sometimes he’s fine up to 3h even, which not often, other times he can bark after 30 min. Advice, please! Thank you!!!❤

  8. About play biting:

How do you stop play biting other people? My dog is completely fine with me and males but with girls he always try’s to play bite and grab their hair. It’s so difficult to deal with

  9. Can’t wait for the “stop barking” episode!! Question: we have a little dog that we got at 8 weeks of age. We socialized her very well (at least I think we did). We took her to a number of stores, we took her to parks, we took her downtown, we took her to offices (with permission), we took her to my hairdresser. To our knowledge, she had a great time at all these places–got petted and made over by people, met other dogs (and never saw any “scary” interactions). She seemed to enjoy the attention. Then suddenly, she started demonstrating fearfulness of new people and new places, and even fearfulness of places she’d already been to. We don’t understand why. She was about 18 months when this happened (so beyond the fear period, and again, we can’t think if one “bad” experience she had that could explain this). Why could this have happened? How can I best help her (or should we just leave her at home)?

  10. Okay, you said anything. I just adopted a dog from a rescue. He was there four years, because he’s aggressive towards strangers. The first night was NOT fun, but now he’s fine with me. How do I socialize him with other people? He’s fine with animals.

  11. I hope this can get answered.
We have a stray dog which is almost 9 months old, whenever there is food in the kitchen or somebody try to cook it becomes crazy around that space and starts barking.
It is very socialize with people and dogs but whenever it comes to food-kitchen it becomes crazy and we dont know how to remove that kind of behaviour.

  12. I can’t wait for this! My puppy barks non stop when he sees me preparing his food! Also keeps barking when he doesn’t literally see me… Thanks for the help Zak🙏

  13. I adopted my French Bulldog at 14mos from a shelter.
He lunges and barks at dogs that don’t acknowledge him. Yes,
Even a dog behaviorist, after 8 sessions, agreed with me that he does this. He freezes and waits to see if they will acknowledge him. If they don’t he start’s lunging and barking (Frenchie Scream) Though he has gotten much better with positive reinforcement training , he’s 30lbs of muscle, and it has taken a toll on me and my body. I use a runners belt because he was wrecking my shoulders with his lunging. Any other suggestions would be awesome.

  14. Excited for the barking video!! I know my pup’s different barks pretty well. Her spooked bark, her sees another dog and wants to play bark, and her wants attention bark. But she has gotten pretty vocal and I want to work on helping her be more “socially acceptable” and quiet when I take her places and for my neighbor’s sake.

  15. How to get my dog to stop barking at the neighbors dog? They’re seperated with a fence and my dog goes crazy when the other one is out. It’s so hard to deal with. Breaks my heart that I need to take him inside, he’s an outdoorsy kind of guy.

  16. Hey Zak – I adopted a 10 week Labrador Puppy and work a full time job (3 days at home). Any advice you can give tto make sure he gets the best upbringing in this scenario?

  17. I have 3 dogs for 7 seven years and up until now they still bark all the male members of our family. My brother and all my nephews 😅 They see each others everyday though ’cause we all live in the same house.
