Using a longer lead for leash training can make a big difference in helping you get that initial traction!

  2. Do you have any suggestions for a long leash for a small dog? The hooks are always too heavy for my dog so she gets bothered by them, but I’d love to walk her more often on a long leash 😅

  3. After having my girl snap her long line multiple times I will not be using it. Instead working on nose work at home with different objects an different smells before a walk. And rather focus on a heel walk when out and about. Stops her from picking up bones that I may not see laying around and prevents allergies to pestoides and other chemical products you can find on your way. Giving you control if a off leash dog or stray dogs aprouch you.

    1. She bites it, or does it just brake?
If it just brakes, you should try biothane dog leash, they can hold a horse.
And are realy easy to clean.
Only downside i noticed is, that they crull up when pulled on it to hard.

    2. @Whiteeagle 888 no she doesn’t bite it my long line is for explosive dogs. She will run just a little bit back and forth with no tension on it and after 3 or 4 laps she will just run full stem ahead and it will snap. And it happened when we were working on recall away from the fence where she will try and jump over. So I am not a fan

  4. I prefer flexi leashes, the loose leash technique is easy to trip and tangle both dog and human. If there are more than one at a time it just gets confusing. I can manage 4 dogs on flexi’s that are 12 ft long without pulling.

  5. whenever my dog is allowed to explore for 5 seconds she’s eating something, whether it’s old lawn mower chunks, nearby flowers, pinecones, cigarettes butts, mushrooms. Trainers told me she probably has pica. There’s no where truly safe for her to explore freely.

    1. @Whiteeagle 888 leave it works when there’s specific items that I can’t see before she can fish it out e.g. a soaked lawn mower chunk deep in still long wet grass. I can’t just walk around saying leave it every step because there might be something, it will lose its meaning.

Leave it will work on pine cones and things large enough to see.

    2. @CoffeeCasualty I don’t let my dog snif places were I don’t see what she can put in her mouth.
If I don’t see were her head/ mouth is, I pull her away.
Don’t want to scare you, but we live in a evil world, and some people put poison food in bushes or whatever to poison dogs, be careful.

  6. I use a 10 meter biothane dog leash for play in my neighborhood.
Since it is first of all mandatory to have your dog on a leash in a residential area.
And second because she is only 9 months old, and a medium size dog, who is weaker against larger dogs that may be off leash.
Because some stupid trainers here on youtube encourage people to let their dogs off leash.
And I can’t trust other people’s dogs just like that.
And she is now in heat for the first time.
I have her on a leash for HER safety so I can grab her quickly, and lift her over my head by her HARNESS.
A few days ago I ran into someone with a Mastiff, very large dog, who was running loose.
    Was also an intact male.
While my dog is in heat for the first time.
I said my dog was in heat, and then he called his dog away from mine, and luckily the dog listened.
But when does it go wrong????

  7. Your recommending people to use a long lead what happens if they have high pray drive and they charge and snap the lead 🤦🏻‍♂️. This does not solve the problem because not everyone can use a long lead especially if you live in the city.. Your not helping people your helping them put their dog in nad situation 🤦🏻‍♂️

  8. I’ve been using a long lead with my 6m old puppy on our non-street walks and its been amazing to see her actually following me w/o me having to put tension on the leash!

Ill walk ahead and when she cant see me anymore she comes running back to my side! Started using it after she pulled while I let her explore the edge of the stream and I slipped into a pit of mud 😅

  9. I instinctively bought a flex leash of 5 meters. I have never used a flex leash and such a long leash on large dogs. But this dog that I adopted before me had 4 adopters and has a history of bites. They wanted to euthanize her because she bit people, owner, and she attacked other dogs, but she didn’t attack all people and she didn’t attack all dogs, some she loves even today and some she doesn’t. In fact, the dog was afraid. Now she walks normally on a leash.. she doesn’t growl when I brush her, bathe her or when I approach her while she is eating. I worked by instinct. It took me 5 months for this dog to become a completely different dog.

  10. Aha… yeah. My last dog caused me some serious pain when I used one of these and he saw a dog. I’ve used it a few times with my current dog, and am terrified the whole time. We don’t get very far, and I still usually end up injured.

  11. I have been using a nine metre leash for a long time and it works a lot of the time. However, she like running after birds so keeps going into the bushes and the leash tangles up. On a shorter leash she still pulls, especially in the beginning of the walk. Her excitability is the biggest hindrance to learning to walk on a loose leash.

  12. “If you don’t know how to use the leash to establish proper loose leash walking then get an even longer leash and just don’t teach your dog how to walk nicely on a loose leash, just let them roam”

    1. I strongly advise against the use of tools designed to be uncomfortable or painful to dogs. There are much better ways!
