  1. I loved this video. Seeing the raw footage with a kid is so important and kudos to her for being brave enough to be part of the training and experimenting! We’ve had our dog a year and our 7 year old still sometimes gets a little too into his space.

  2. Great video. I get this all the time from clients. One thing I would like to point out . The little girl probably got snapped at because the position of the little girl was over Biscuit’s head thus in Biscuit’s world it was either playing with another dog or she feels like she is getting ready to attacked- thus the nip. So glad the little girl was willing to try again — maybe she is a dog trainer in the making!!

  3. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this. Our 11 month old cattle dog gets really worked up around kids and has snapped at my baby nephew before and has chased our neighbor boy… It’s such an emotionally charged issue that it’s paralyzed me. We’ve completely stopped trying to socialize around kids because of my own fear. But I hate just leaving it on that note. But also, we still encounter children out in the world, even if we actively avoid them. I just cannot emotionally handle the effort and management that it takes to counter condition around kids. But I can’t keep living in this fear/anxiety. Thank you for normalizing this issue without watering it down.

    1. Your fear and anxiety is certainly normal and very understandable. However, unless you want to manage your dog for the rest of his or her life, you’ll need to socialize him or her to children in some form. My suggestion is to work with a professional positive trainer or veterinary behaviorist who can help you. They will take your dog’s reaction to children into account and your nervousness as well. Again, your nervousness is very normal and understandable. Having said that, you may want to set up your dog’s environment so that he or she can see children fairly close up, but doesn’t really have to “deal with” children. When your nephew comes over, you’ll need to put your dog up or get to a “place” where your dog has a special place he or she can go to where your nephew won’t bother him. Your nephew will have to learn that “don’t try to pet or interact with the dog when he is in that place”. Give your dog a “safe haven” from children so that when the dog’s had “enough”, he or she has a place to go where the kids won’t bother him or her. I think you’ll feel much more comfortable if you have a professional help you.

    2. @Jan Hankins I totally agree. We have an appointment with our trainer next month to discuss this topic and make a plan. I thought I could “do it on my own” because I know what to do, but it doesn’t matter because my emotions are what is holding me back, not a lack of knowledge. But meeting with a professional will hopefully give me the confidence and clarity I need for us to move forward with this issue.

  4. This is a great topic. I have never seen any videos with trainers dealing with challenges of adopting a puppy into a busy house with young kids. There’s management then there’s trying to manage a hurricain 🤣. Anyway, food for thought…

  5. Thank you so much for the Biscuits series. She is so much like my rat terrier puppy and I am watching it to strategize her training. Super helpful seeing you work with Biscuits.

  6. Inertia really is the sweetest girl. She loves and cares for all the dogs you bring into the home to train. She is an amazing example of a well trained dog!

  7. In case you need to catch up, here is a playlist with ALL of Biscuits’ episodes in order: https://tinyurl.com/BISCUITSedition

We hope you’re enjoying this series as much as we enjoyed filming it! Let us know what you think and give us your requests for future videos here!!

We cast Biscuits the rescue puppy because of all of your comments 🙌 What kind of dog do you want to see next?!?

    1. I want to see a beagle! My hound will not listen despite my training. The smell of another thing is more important to her than any other treat, toy, or reward I have to offer.

  8. This is my favorite video of Biscuits so far. Seeing her behavior with new people and watching Bree deal with her at a party, and with a child is so helpful. It shows us how to cope with our pups in similar situations.
I love the emphasis on being proactive and trying to not let things get out of hand.
Helps remind me to do the same. Thanks a lot guys 😊

  9. You guys do a great job with all your dogs. With introducing Biscuits (or any dog) to a kid, I think it’s always better not to be holding them, for a couple reasons – if they’re uncomfortable with what’s happening they can’t leave, and that can result in a bite, and/or they might also resource guard you (their human) from the new person/child. I’m sure with more time she’ll enjoy kiddos!

  10. I have a 10w cavapoo puppy now and end of week 8 she learned to be gentler unless she is due for a nap, week 9 as I expected got a little worse so I ordered better teething toys that arrived just in time for week 10 and now she is having a “terrible twos” stage of extremely easy frustration or upset and she wants to be held, then she wants to be put back down, lifted, put back down… growing is hard. 💜 the biting has been insane this week but with her emotions being sensitive and she is napping even more we are taking an easy rest week this week with just everyday life experiences like grooming, routine, and get my second oldest dog to not be afraid of her which so far has been giving him personal space indoors, and outdoors he can relax with other scents and outrun her if he wants to, and two adults in case personal space is needed for the older dog. My arms feel like I’ve walked through thorny bushes but I love her intensity because I know it will translate into a promising sport dog over time. ^^ there’s a lot of poodle in that little brain, so smart and energetic, and no noise reactivity so far so she may have gotten the calm as a cucumber nerves from the cavalier possibly. One can hope! Her favorite toy is a plastic maracas for kids which is the cutest thing.

  11. So pleased you told us all not to scold the dog ! Us public really need this advice. It’s our fault if the dog nips someone !! Thanks for a great video 😊

  12. Thank you for this! My puppy is 5 months now and although her biting has gone down some, it still makes me nervous when she’s socializing around others, especially kids! I’m hopeful I can one day get this little land shark under control!! 😂

  13. While I love the video, biscuits is just small enough that her play bite doesn’t cause the same kind of pain and damage a larger breed puppy would. How do you redirect/recondition a larger puppy whose mouthing is intolerable, especially if playing with them makes it more likely they will mouth you?

  14. The best way to handle puppy biting is to redirect that energy to something else. I like to give my dog a teething treat or a Nylabone. A Nylabone filled with peanut butter works well against puppy biting.

  15. Would love to see a series on a very stubborn breed in the “teenager” phase. Thank you for sharing your ways I have learned so much from you guys and most of all you’ve taught me to be patient and to not get frustrated!! The days are long and the years are short!

  16. I appreciate it so much that you kept the kid mostly anonymous by just calling them “kid”. You guys are very respectfull people (also shoutout to kid’s parents for allowing us all to learn from the footage)
