About the author:

Emily Larlham runs the dog training business Dogmantics Dog Training in San Diego, California. She is known around the world for her popular Youtube Channel ‘Kikopup’ where she has posted over 350 free in-depth dog training tutorials. She believes that by putting out free training tutorials that don’t involve any forms of physical or psychological intimidation, it will not only effect how people treat animals but also how people treat other human beings. Emily created the term ‘Progressive Reinforcement Training’ and a training manifesto to describe this way of training in detail.

Emily began her training career as an animal care-giver in a shelter about 15 years ago where she met her dog training mentor Kyle Rayon. After meeting Kyle, Emily quit her job and became an apprentice. After many years of study, learning from both human and thousands of canine mentors, she began her own business. She combines her artistic background and training skills to invent creative, fast and reliable ways to solve problem behaviors as well as train complex behaviors and tricks. She has been invited to conduct seminars on her techniques for training dogs without intimidation in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. She has also spoken at conferences such as the PPG Summit, Clicker Expo, Clicker Expo Europe, APDT Australia and the Art and Science of Animal Training Conference.

  1. Absolutely love this, thank you so much! Thinking of getting a second dog at some point and I’m so overwhelmed with how to start. I’m not going to be competing, I just want a companion who will hopefully enjoy being taken anywhere with me and who will hopefully have a suitable nature for PAT work. I know so much more than when I got my boy Misha, but it can still be a daunting task! Your videos really inspire me and are full of good advice, thanks! 💛🐾

    1. Nice, thanks for your kindness and sharing this. Blessings.
ps-I love how you talk through many things as it lets me go back and just play it and listen, it drills in my head all your positivity and it inspires me to go back and play these games. Its great reinforcement and fun. My dogs already know your voice and your dogs, they no longer bark and know its just training. Quite funny really. The only time they barked was when you first got Halo. The using of pup as a name when first getting your dog is actually a good thing in case the pup ever gets away. Keep sharing – caring, prayers to the journey, would love to see videos explaining how these games help service dogs. Blessings.

  2. I’ve recently started learning more about dog training and I’m so glad I found your channel and amazing videos! Your manner is so lovely, and you’re so calm and gentle with all the doggos. 🐶

  3. Thanks a lot! I’m a dog and cat behaviorist in france and I mainly work with adult dogs with behavior problems and exclusive positive renforcement method. It’s been a long time I haven’t work with puppies so your videos are a good refresh to me 🙂

  4. Thank you for this in depth compilation! our 14 week old Aussie is thriving using your training methods and, more importantly, we send your videos to friends before they interact with the pup. You have the best elucidating in a way my bonehead friends can understand. Rally and agility- here we come!

  5. I’ve been watching some tutorial videos and doing research as I’m getting my first puppy next month, I’m so glad I found your videos Kikopup. By far the best advice I’ve seen and I’ll be using your techniques. Great videos, inspiring from a true professional. Thank you.

    1. Thanks 🙂 I try my best to make the videos watchable but my main goal is not entertainment but education. And I do make the videos specifically for other professional dog trainers to use to give clients their homework assignments.

  6. I love your videos! I’ve actually used some of what you teach with my cats and it *really* works. All 3 of my boys know their names, they come when called, and they all sit on cue. I love your style, it’s so positive and just a completely different way to think about training.

  7. Thank you for merging this compilation – I pick up my puppy in a couple of weeks – so this has helped me confidentially plan and prepare for this big adventure!

  8. Thank you so much, Emily! This is an amazing playlist. I’ve watched this a few times since it’s long and I can have it playing in the background. Getting new insights without having to babysit my computer. Please make more really long video compilations of your awesome library!

  9. This is an awesome tutorial!! Thank you for so much knowledge. I watched the whole video in one sitting and took lots of notes. Then saved it to keep at my fingertips. Thank you again. Very well done!! ❤️😇❤️🐶❤️

  10. This is one of the best puppy training videos I have ever seen. You explain everything in such a simple way and counter any issues with a positive approach. Well done, I am following!

  11. I’ve been a dedicated fan for many years, since Splash’s pup training videos. I’ve enjoyed training a number of personal and foster dogs with clicker training after a lifelong obsession with behavioral psychology and I can always count on your videos to provide new perspective and insight with already familiar concepts. I appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into your channel over the years and now looking at your newer videos, see that the quality of your tutorials has come a long way from your early days on the web- so much kudos to you! I’ve been a dog groomer for sixteen years and refer all my clients to your videos. Wishing you many more years of happy dogs and success in your career.

    1. Awe thanks thst means a lot ! Send my your email to Dogmanticsstore@gmail.com so I can send people to your grooming business. I often get asked for referrals all over the place. This comment section doesn’t notify me of the reply people make so hence asking for the email

  12. I don’t know how I didn’t come across this video 2 years ago when I was trying to train my puppy. This is honestly the best information and having it together is so helpful! Thank you!

  13. Thank you so much for this! I have watched through the whole thing and bookmarked it, will definitely come back to this video several times after we pick up our first every puppy tomorrow. Your channel is amazing and I find your videos very educational and easy to follow and understand.

  14. Absolutely love your channel and this training video! We just adopted our first dog and are wanting to get her training down with your instructions. What order of things to teach would you recommend and how often a day/week would you train specific things? A bit overwhelmed with how to schedule the training through the days/weeks and unsure of what to do first, second, etc. Thank you!!❤

    1. watch the video that comes up thats called ‘what to train first’ as it will depend on the puppy. for example one puppy will be mouthy and another not at all… one will have trouble house training the other not… one will be scared to put on a leash… the other no issue… so it really depends on what comes up on what you focus on besides also covering the basics.

  15. You have a great personality for training dogs. The calm, willing obedience of your dogs, as they watch a new dog’s schooling is quite the compelling advertisement!
