Did anyone else notice that Zak doesn’t correct any of these dogs bad behavior in the video?! Gross.
You must be new here
My dog does exactly like that, and trust me. If we start yelling or yanking at him, he gets 10 times worse and the next time he’s in the same situation, he reacts worse. Not better at all. The best way to handle a dog is by being nice, calm, and removing them from situations they cannot handle while rewarding when they do the right thing. Not starting to scare them more. It’s gross that people think they can get dogs to behave well by being mean to them. Just like it’s gross when people hit/scream at kids who don’t behave.
Yes. Me. I’d hate to think I have to carry a treat in my pocket everywhere to get my dog to behave properly. Once it’s established they understand what is expected of them, a correction is warranted.
Brill trainer
I think my dog is scared/uncertain of other dogs. He has been around other dogs a lot. In those dog parks (though in Sweden they’re very small and not so full of dogs as in America), at a day care for dogs, walking with dogs in a group every week. So it’s not that he’s unsocialized. However, he gets very barky, especially at big dogs, at loose dogs, at dogs coming towards him at higher speeds, etc. So I think he’s fearful. We’re always keeping treats at hand, and if we can, creates some distance between him and the meeting dog, so he can feel safe. He’s better, but far from good.
Hmm, CBT for dogs
I think my dog is reacting (barking, jumping, yelping) because he is SO excited. I have changed our pattern to going outside. Trying to move slowly but he is just going crazy.
