  1. My puppy jumps on me when we are playing outside. Super cute but them little daggers are doing a number on my thighs. I know she is just excited, and she is normally very shy, so not sure how to stop the jumping without increasing her timidness.

  2. When I come home from anywhere . . . even just driving trash to end of driveway . . . she’s comes running. She’s a solid 45# Bernedoodle and can knock you to the next county when running excitedly. I’ve learned to reach my hand down before she gets to me and she just stops under my hand for some “love ya’ talk” and a rub. It works very well.

  3. I’ve found that my dogs can bark for different reasons at different times. Sometimes it’s anxiety, sometimes it’s excitement, other times it’s communication (like they see something new like a person on a pogo stick and they’re saying “look at that” or someone is at the door). I think it’s fairly common for dogs to bark for different reasons at different times. Knowing your dog and looking at their body language will clue you as to why your dog is barking at that moment.

  4. My dog gets to communicate but I will not tolerate yelling is what I always say. The main problem is when he gets impatient waiting for the ball to be thrown again and it’s much more shrill than any of his other barks. He has now mostly learned that barking will mean I hold the ball longer and now will just nudge the ball closer if he’s impatient

  5. I would guess a combination of excited and bored and wants to play. At least with my dog tiring him out stops that behavior. He doesn’t do it for any other basic needs like needing to go out or wanting food and water. It must be just a desire to do something after I’ve been at work

  6. Mine jumps and barks when people visit. Not everyone likes to be jumped on and I have yet to be able to get him to stop. He’s so good otherwise. He just gets so excited when we have friends or family over.

    1. Put a leash on him abd give him enough leash to stand up. Then add 3 inches. Step on the leash and tell the guest to ignore the dog until they are calmly sitting then they can go to the dogs level and greet them. What will happen is the dog will be very excited to greet the person, but when they go to jump up, they are stopped by hitting the end of the little bit of slack you gave them. Everytime they jump up, they are correcting themselves. Wait until the dog is not jumping and is calm, then have the person crouch and greet the dog calmly. Then you can remove the leash.

  7. i got my dog when i was 13, he was a puppy. all i could find on youtube for training methods back then was this guy. i’ve had my dog for 7+ years now, i have yet to meet a dog better behaved than mine- behaved AND happy. listening to your dog is just as important as your dog listening to you! do everything you can to understand your dog

  8. My 5 month old pup has become very aggressive towards me. When I say NO to her or take something away that she wants, she growls, her lip puckers and she jumps and bites. This is definitely not happy to see me bites 😢. She is a Goldendoodle and is just a doll but I’m scared sometimes because of how aggressive she is. I have tried several different things to break the habit but she doesn’t seem to respond. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ❤

  9. Our dog will bark when people are coming to the door, when the neighbor dogs are barking specifically in a certain way, and when she’s protecting our yard from an unidentified squirrel or cat. There are times I wonder what she’s barking at, and I’ll be curious and go look.

I’m so grateful we found your channel right when we adopted her as a pup. She is part of several mellow breeds, but she is usually the most relaxed, friendly, and calm dog. Thank you for your work!

  10. Barking, I think she’s just letting me know she sees something outside that she wants me to be aware of.
I look out, thank her and say “just watch” and she does!

  11. I do believe in setting limits with both jumping and barking. Doesn’t get an automatic reprimand from me, though. Sometimes the “get lost” and “everyone else around here shut it up and stop barking” barks are really appreciated. It’s part of his job to guard the house after all and he’s instinctively going to do it anyway, as he should. Can’t punish him for not convening a mediation to resolve community noise issues, posting signs about running down the sidewalks, or making social media posts about his concerns. Jumping is bad and a tough one but it’s always an excitement issue and patience, ignoring him, and letting him grow out of it was all we could really do. Punishing him with yelling or grabbing didn’t do a heck of a lot, and I doubt beating the crap out of him would have done much either.
