    1. Thank you Ken, I’ve searched YouTube and Google for an hour looking for tips on crate training… this was far and away the most helpful, clear and BS-free video that I found. Thank you for the quality content, and thank you for not spending 3 minutes trying to sell us a specific crate.

  1. Maybe this could be an idea for another video?… How do I best prepare my puppy for being comfortable driving in the car and flying? Thanks!

    1. @Destitute and Decadent i mean, you got a dog knowing it depends on you and trusts you, if your gonna go on a selfish trip then its probably best you leave the dog with a family member or a friend but sending that dog in a crate through the airport sorting system and into cargo is messed up in my opinion. I would never put my puppo through that, personally. If you’re moving its a different story still awful the dog has to go through it. As for the car most dogs frikken LOVE car rides lol

    2. @whiff Spiggins I agree with you on the vacation bit, unless they’re small enough that you get to take them in the cabin.
I’m sure it’s different if you live on a continent, but I live on a pretty remote island so if I have to move elsewhere for work, planes are pretty much my only option.
I guess different lives different perspectives on transport.

    3. @Destitute and Decadent yeah your right i live in Canada its a massive country lol and my pup is a lab so shes gonna be big so I’m looking at it through a different lense for sure

    4. Hi! I just trained my puppy to be okay in the car. It only took me about a week. Starting out, my puppy would cry and try to crawl on my lap.

I started out giving her lots of treats around the car just getting her comfortable with being around the car

Then I moved on to opening the door and placing treats on the floor of the car and the seat and encouraged her to get them. When she was comfortable with that, I put her on the seat and gave her lots of praise and treats.

Then I moved onto putting her on the seat, shutting the door and getting on the drivers side. I got her to sit on the seat and gave her treats

Then I moved onto turning the car on, and doing the same thing. And practiced going on really short drives

If she started to freak out I would turn around and block her from getting on my lap, and when she calmed down I would reward her.

I repeated these steps, and practiced everyday for a few minutes to an hour or two.

Not she gets excited whenever we’re around the car.

  2. I pick up my border collie x koolie puppy Jasper in four days, I’m super excited! These tips are awesome! I used to never like the idea of crate training but now I think it’s such an amazing thing that your dog could have. Thankyou for all the videos they are super helpful!

  3. This was incredibly helpful. Many of these tips I have heard, but the way you put the info together really helped me understand why my pup is so restless in his crate.

  4. This was very good information. Yes, I learned that I had to remove the nice cloth towel I had in the crate because my puppy would soil it and then scrunch it up in back of the crate to get away from it. And yes, I learned to take her outside to do her business and make sure she did it before coming back inside and putting her in the crate. There is only so long a puppy can hold it, and with small dogs, at first they can’t hold it very long at all. I have some of the most stubborn breeds when it comes to housebreaking: chihuahua and Italian greyhounds. Although I had been through it before, it is such a long drawn out process that I began to wonder if I was ever going to be able to train them to only go potty outside. I kept on being consistent and just kept up the training, and then all of sudden it seems like they both got it and stopped having accidents in the house and in the crate. I now only use the crates when I am going somewhere or when there are repairmen inside the house, etc. The rest of the time they follow me around like my shadow and I no longer have to worry about them having an accident. It is wonderful.

  5. I
have owned two dogs before but I forget how I trained them yet they
were stubborn and still peed in the house from time to time like twice a
    month. My fault probably.

Sorry this is so long thank you very much, Peter

  6. Do you have a video for how to train the “okay” release command? How does the puppy know that okay means they’re allowed to stop doing whatever they were being asked to do?

  7. We’ve always used a puppy area, I’ve raised Jack Russells, one of the more difficult breeds, but now have Italian Greyhonds, which they have their challenges too. Great information.

  8. My new German shepherd puppy will not stop crying barking in crate. I’m literally so exhausted . I’ve tried everything I’ve been watching. Nothing seems to be working so far.

    1. If you go to their website they have trainers available to help. I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulty. I hope it gets better. I’m not affiliated with them, just training my pup the same as you.

    1. I suggest hand feeding if your trying to build engagement or drive. Your dog isn’t interested on treats? He/she will be if he missed breakfast and now your offering food. (Not suggesting to not feed your dog just use your meals as training)

    2. If your dog won’t behave tonight in order to eat, I bet he’ll behave to eat tomorrow. As long as he’s healthy and has his needs met he may have to miss a meal or 2 before he realizes the value of his kibble

  9. THANK YOU FOR THIS! I started feeding my puppy (Newfoundland/Pyrenees mix named Wilbur who is SO CUTE if I do say so myself) in his crate and dropping the kibble in like Kayl suggested and he is doing so much better! He slept through the night the past two nights and I can’t thank you enough.

  10. Funny thing is, when it’s time to get my new puppy out of my crate I have to reach in and get him. He likes his crate so much that he takes himself in there. I did not crate train him. He trained himself.
