This is a wonderful exercise for any dog to learn! It is also a great exercise to perfect your own training skills.
the cue "touch" is useful if you want to teach your dog behaviors using "luring", it is also a wonderful way to call your dog, build your dogs attention and teach amazing and complex tricks.
You can teach your dog to 'heel' using touch, you can also teach your dog to deliver mail to your family members! The possibilities are endless when you teach your dog this skill.

Hand target, dog training touch, teach a puppy to come when called,
This video is awesome. I never even thought about using touch with other behaviors like standing on two legs and heeling…. perfect! You are so great Emily!
I love how quickly he gets ahold of what to do! It shows how smart they are =) Great video
Great video! I learned to do this in dog training class but she didn’t teach us about the hand position or teaching them to follow. This is going to make my future training so much easier! I’m wondering if you would ever speak to the lengths of your training sessions — your dogs aways look so bouncy and excited!
Awesome and yet simple to do for beginners like me:) Thanx!
Great video Emily! I like the idea of 2 fingers instead of a flat hand for touch. Might have to retrain Slider & Elektra’s “touch” to that hand sign!
I love using the Touch command! I use it all the time with all three of my dogs and they love this game!
Touch was the first thing I ever taught my dog at 9 weeks old. It’s become a very useful behaviour. Recently I’ve been using it to increase enthusiasm for recall while off-leash with good success.
Hi Emily, I wanted to let you know how much I admire you and the dedication you have to your trade. It is evident you really love what you do. You explain everything so clearly and patiently. Thank you
OH MY GAWD!!! This is Brilliant! Correct me if I’m wrong but, this drill will actually tackle several things at once. 1. Getting attention; 2. Getting them to move, spin, stand, jump, dance; 3. Getting them to follow. Fantastic. Question: how long did it take you to get your Collie to move so smoothly with your fingers…a week, a month? Did you have the same success with your small dogs?
So excited to teach my dog this! Thanks for the great video!
Just got our puppy three days ago and your videos have been wonderfully clear and very effective for training. He is taking to it like a duck to water which is so apt as he is an Irish water spaniel. Definitely the best of the clicker videos in my humble opinion. Thanks a milion
This worked within minutes!!! Brilliant simple starting point for me and my dog!
This is really awesome. Very nice demonstration and explanation without any room for confusion.
Really clear cut instruction. Thank you for that! Can’t wait to start this with my 13 week old GSD today!
Thank you so much for your videos! My dog is learning alot and so am I
You are very welcome!
This is excellent, thanks for sharing, I know it is an older video but they are just as valuable and such a great refresher for humans as well as pups-tx, love our dogs! Peace and blessings.
Thanks for doing this with an actual puppy! All the other videos I’ve seen are with adult dogs so this was super helpful 🙂
wow, I almost skipped over this video thinking this seemed like a pointless thing to learn but I can see now that it is the basis for so many different possibilities!!! Thank you for this!
So grateful to Emily and Kikopup. Thank you for sharing your knowledge so we can learn and make their world a better place.
As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life’s work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.
