  1. @cocopup25 Unless your dog is over weight, a dog that doesnt eat food is so excited and aroused that their body has lowered the blood flow to the stomach, which is a stressful state- so you really want to work on that first. One thing you can do is leave the house, and just chill in front of the house. Practice the Settle- inside, and when your dog is a pro practice it outside ( see the video “capturing calmness”) The sign that your dog can eat, will mean your dogs stress level is lower

  2. Great!
Couldn’t you make a tutorial for the heelposition? It’s awsome how quick your dog do that, Alin needs much time to get in the heel positon. What could I do to get her quicker?

  3. @kikopup Ok, thanks! I’ll try that. But, I don’t think my dog gets THAT excited or aroused when she’s outside. She’ll basically just stand there, sniff the air or maybe the ground a little and when presented a treat, lets say cheese or hot dog, she’ll sniff it, put it in her mouth and then spit it out. I’ve tried using freeze dried liver, but she also spits that out. When inside, cheese is the best thing ever, but when outside, she doesn’t even bother with food. Toys also aren’t motivating.

  4. @kikopup Overall, she is pretty obedient outside, but doesn’t really seem like she’s paying attention to me most of the time. Sometimes I let her run off leash in front of me on walks but when she gets too far I tell her to “wait” and she’ll stop. Instead of looking at me, she’ll sniff the ground around her until i get close to her to release her and she’ll continue walking. Thanks for all your help! I’ve used a lot of your tutorials to train my dogs and even other dogs for competition 🙂

  5. I should do this game , my little pup LOVES to sniff and gets distracted a lot being a pup she just wants to see everything :’D .Thanks for posting this.

  6. I need to do this for ‘audience’ distraction! At our Dances with Dogs comp on the weekend we had lots of ‘going off for visits’ as we normally train without people watching and definately not seated at the front of a ring!

  7. @cocopup25 @kikopup I dont think this is always the case Emily. My girly Dasy is part beagle and often times will respond to a click by running right by me and blowing off a high value treat just to go sniff another spot. She’s not stressed, she’s a hound. She completely ignores toys outside as well they just dont interest her when she knows she can find real prey. I’m still trying to figure out how to work premacking into our training without keeping her on a 4ft leash.

  8. Great advice. I will definetly try this approach. Patience is the key! And learning how to make you the most fun and rewarding to your dog! Your videos are priceless teachings for us newbies! Thank you so very much for sharing your talents and experience!

  9. Once again an awesome movie from Kikopup! Hi Emily, I was noticing that you train your dogs in your backyard/front yard without a fence. I live on a busy street and we were going to put up a fence for our dog but it would be a lot… Do you think it’s OK to not have a fence? Or do you have to teach your dog the boudaries thing first. And if so, when is that video coming? It looks really cool!

  10. @dosdoggies Can you keep her on a short leash just in the beginning, and click then release her to sniff again (don’t bother with toys or treats if she’s not interested in that situation- just let the sniffing be the reinforcement) – once she knows the game you should have her attention and be able to go on to longer / no leash for training ?

  11. Thank you so much Emily! This really helped with Luna in 4-H class! Every week we would go and she would get SUPER distracted because there were 20 dogs that she had never gotten to meet before, there were treats all over the ground, and to top it off, 4-H is in a livestock building so it smells like cows and poop! SUPER distracting! Well I started to do this in my backyard and achieved great attention, and then I moved to the 4-H building when there wasn’t class, and after a while it worked!

  12. Of all the commands…which one should I teach my puppy first? Name? Sit? Come? And what do you suggest the first 3 / 5 commands should be in order?

  13. I just wondered what different commands you use for releasing. For example when releasing from a “sit”, “down”, etc., when you allow the dog to go sniff, and when you allow the dog to chase after prey. Can you use the same command or what ones should be used. Also, when releasing a dog from a command “sit” “down” etc do you release for any command where they would be staying, or just when you ask them to stay (do you use the word stay).

  14. Hi Kikopup!! I also have a small dog…I was wondering how you manage her food intake. I find it very easy to over feed my dog. I make the pieces of food small…but her daily allotment of food is gone in one five minute training session…..then I have no more treats to use for other times during the day.

  15. I have a 2 year old borzoi and she knows her name and the “inside” command to come in from our backyard.  She has made a game of me calling her inside. She looks at me when I call her, but then she either freezes or completely ignores the command (usually she wants to just stay outside longer).  When she has established she won’t come in, I start to walk over to her to take her gently but firmly by the collar to bring her in.  Usually, when I’m a yard away from her, she then bolts to the door, and runs inside.  I never am rough with her and never yell at her when I go to grab her collar.  She is not scared.  She does this because she thinks it is a great game.  How can I get her to just come inside when I call her the first time?

  16. your videos are fantastic!! thank you for making them and sharing all your amazing knowledge and techniques 😊 also, just an fyi, this part 3 of build attn is missing from your dog training basics playlist (I searched and found it 😊)
