WIDESCREEN!!! This is a quick video tutorial on how to teach weaving through the legs using luring or shaping.
Einstein demos how fast a dog can pick this trick up. The footage is almost in real time.
This exercise is great for building a shy dogs confidence. However, take it slow, some dogs might go through your legs on the first try, others might take a week to initially feel relaxed going between your legs. I know a chihuahua in particular that was very nervous of going through her owners legs. Take it slow and dont get frustrated!
Tips:
Make sure to fade out the treat very quickly. The rule is usually- use the treat the first 3 times and then pretend to have a treat, to having an obviously empty hand
Raise criteria constantly or you will get stuck with a dog that needs a treat after each leg pass
Have fun and enjoy!
Dont forget to post a video response of your dog weaving! Also dont be shy! Show of the awesome weave that your dog can already do!

This is a great video! Would you please make one on how to teach weaving backwards through legs? We know the frontwards version and we know how to “back” but are having a really hard time with the backwards weaving! It’s harder to lure and target!
Great job (as usual). I will forward to some new friends looking for tricks to train. Well done! 🙂
Thanks, I’ve had trouble fading the lure with treats and my dog will do it if I have a toy but he won’t do it if I don’t have anything. Fading the lure has been tough for me.
I know how it goes! One way to do it is do around 10 reps, and then just stand there. Click or say “yes!” to any slight movement towards going between. Then do a few more easy reps, then just stand and wait, with a hand signal, and throw a big party. It is possible! It’s just a matter of treating it like its a whole new trick.
Great job – I really like the skip weave – I hadn’t seen that before. I’ll have to add that to Cirque’s repertoire. Thanks!
really great! you explain things so very well. 🙂 another 5* video and favs
Really awesome! I want to teach happy Skip weaves and jump weaves! It just awesome! Great Job!! Cant wait for more tricks training video from you guys!
Nice break down into steps of how to teach this! Thanks!
I love your videos and I’ve never seen the skip weave before, I’ll have to teach Toby that when he can walk better again.
And I love the quote at the end. So true.
I am teaching my dog Riley this trick and it is working great… I had a question though – do you only use body language and hand ques or do you have a verbal que as well?… I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS by the way! You are an awesome trainer!
That’s a great idea! I’ll have to give it a try this week. Pixel’s super-hyped after her vacation, and I’ve tightened our bond. She’ll probably be much more willing now.
Thanks a bunch ;3

Amazing…going to start tomorrow with my five month old Border Collie!
i love how you break down the behaviours. Your videos are very clear and easy to follow. Brilliant work! Thanks! My border collie/ Belgian x is learning lots of stuff with help from your vids.
You’re awesome. And so are those dogs. Very inspiring.
THANK YOU! Just had a 1st lesson on weaving, and it’s looking promising already! Will do a little every day! I have a sweet JRT. Lucy. She knows several tricks and loves training. Short attention span for new things, I just do enough to keep her wanting more, repeat a couple times a day till she learns it. We review all tricks often enough to make sure she doesn’t forget.
After this, I’m anxious to try walking backward, and then a backward weave. Hope I can do it.
Just posted a video response with our 4th training session, fading out the hand targets. Thanks for the tutorial!
My dog learned this incredibly fast. I’ve trained “touch” with before, so she knew to follow my hand. This is a really great trick to teach your dog, it’s easy and fun!
We’ve been learning this with my 10 month old pup. Hadn’t watched this vid before and was wondering how to fade out the hand lure. Love the leaning idea 🙂
I’m super excited to teach this trick! Lately I’ve just been using treats, no clicker, but I’m getting one soon .0.
Ten years later… nice seeing how you move your legs to do the different type of weaving. Thanks.
