  1. I am finding ALL of your videos great resources, and your techniques are helping my dogs, who are older and were intitially trained via classes at our local PetsMart and with private training w/mixed results. I just want to add here (for those thinking of getting a puppy) that 6 weeks is very young to take a puppy from its mother. They learn a lot of socialization skills from their mom and siblings, and shouldn’t go before 9-10 weeks (ideally).

  2. Geez those pups are to cute! I’ve just got my bc pup yesterday 7 weeks old and I got to start training I will start tomorrow on behaviors I want. We have started crate trianing and potty training already though.

  3. I have an 8 week old toy poodle. She gets so excited and won’t make eye contact when I make a noise or call name (she’s learning name still). She does come with me when I tell her to come, but only when I’m moving. Training her is tough.

  4. Hi Emily! just one question, i’m starting to train my puppy (named happy) this week and he’s 8 weeks old, can you tell me what treats should i use in his training? because he’s young and i dont want to “upset” his stomach! thanks a lot.
PS. love your vids and i’m learning a lot with you! thanks

  5. Awesome advice as usual Emily. I so wish I knew about you when i first got my little boy. Although I have since learnt so much from you, knowing this stuff would have saved so much frustration in those early days.

  6. Hi! I love your positive training videos, you’re an inspiration to animal lovers everywhere! Keep up the great work!

If you’re looking for ideas for other videos, we could sure use your help for how to curb our adult dogs from licking us and our guests!

  7. Thank you so much for posting all of these videos! My boyfriend and I are graduate students in psychology and really wanted to train our puppy using positive reinforcement. We know all about that, but didn’t really know how to incorporate it into puppy behavior. Because of your videos our puppy knows sit, lay, come, and when to go into her crate, and we are reinforcing her for calm behaviors and giving us her attention. She is doing so great and we have only had her one week! I look forward to training with her every day and using your videos as guidance! Thanks again!!

  8. I just love your videos! I’m getting a new puppy soon and so I decided to look for some positive training videos and these are so helpful! Can’t wait to use these techniques when I get my new pup! Thanks!

  9. Hi Em! Thanks for creating these videos. I just got a brand new puppy yesterday, and although I was a dog trainer up until a few years ago, there’s a lot of stuff I have forgotten. These videos are a great refresher. Thank you!

  10. Thanks kikopup. I have to say I never thought about it quite like that, that the first weeks/months should be spent on calm behaviours only and then teaching the sillier tricks later. Wonderful advice from you as always.

  11. My pup only does well while training, so we try to turn what she offers into acceptable things otherwise we find ourselves losing our patience and mind and then she gets too satiated from eating and gets even nuttier. She wants to know and do everything so it is really hard keeping her reeled in, and she is the calmest of the litter. We keep trying because she is a lovely puppy and she is already working on service work, but very little, due to her immaturity.

  12. I have a new puppy, a 10 week old whippet, and have trained it to ‘sit’ based on this advice, its been super helpful! I never owned a dog before, the next thing ill try to work on is ‘stay’ or ‘down’ I dont have a clicker, but we are getting there anyway. Would not cope or have a good safe, reliable dog without these practical, clear and helpful video’s. Thank you so much! πŸ™‚

  13. I love that you used such a young pup for this video. I come across people in training forums that think you have to wait until six months (they claim it has to do with attention span *rolls eyes*). That’s such a long time for the dog to develop bad habits!
