  1. Making excuses for our dogs will only let us feel better over the lack of control we have over them. Dogs are naturally followers and if we do not take a leadership role our dogs will.
Pulling stems from a lack of clear communication. Not only that harnesses doesn’t help with it. Now before you say that isn’t so I beg you to look at what they use on huskies on a sled. Not only that but to go and look at the amount of dog owners being hospitallised because of it and not to mention the amount of dog attacks that happens on a harness walked dog. Teaching the heel command with treats that is not hard stopping when the dog pulls that is not hard turning and walking in the opposite direction not hard. Giving a dog sniff walks not hard. Yet u avoid all of that get dogs over threshold get spinned around an having to undo this behavior you have allowed. If a puppy is putting tension on a leash and you just stop wait until they focus on you and loosen the lead you are not reinforcing it. So when the puppy is grown up they have learned pulling doesn’t pay. No aversive methods needed. So why use an aversive method because when the dog is growing up there are going to be trigger’s and if they learn that they can move u even a inch it will become more reinforcing to them so giving a correction teachers them that pulling gives them nothing to gain. Stopping pulling permanently.

    1. Correct. The dog will do what you teach it to do. It just takes clear communication. These tips honestly set owners backwards with training.

    1. Exactly, I have a German Shepherd American Bully mix that I got from the shelter at a year and a half and he was horrible when I first got him but by using a good prong collar and treats when he did the right thing without me having to correct him I got an amazing dog who just walks by my side without issue. Really not hard and didn’t take long, but I also wouldn’t want to walk a larger dog without a prong. My dog is 70lbs and for the first walls after I got him even walking him in a head halter he could very easily pull me around if he wanted to.

    2. @Pyx Those of us who have been through what you have been through no no that it is a communication issue. The dog was not receiving clear instructions before and now with the help of this beautiful tool they receive very clear instructions inside and so their life is inevitably much better.

  2. My puppy loves a long leash, and he is never more than 10 from me when a leash is on him, and I sometimes don’t even hold the leash. Hmm, you’re on to something.
