  1. You are very educational. I wish you had more content on anxious around people dogs, because no clicker for the life of me can help me with that. I’ve got a rescue Great Dane, who doesn’t trust people and barks when they try to touch him(ONLY lets them touch him after he’s met them a few times) and I want to teach him the concept that ALL people are good, not just those he’s met many times. How do you deal with that?

  2. I am so glad to find your channel! I just got my first foster dog, and a he’s an adult border collie. He’s the most gentle creature I’ve ever met, but has zero manners. So far, watching your videos is giving me confidence that I can help him learn the things he needs to know to thrive in his future forever home. Can’t wait to start with him in the morning!

  3. Hi Emily!
You talk about teaching the correct level of arousel around food. Could you please help me understand how to do this? My pup is SO excited around food that it makes training incredibly difficult. I was encouraged to try a clicker bc of that, but I haven’t started yet bc I wanted to watch your videos to learn how to go about it the correct way. Thanks for all your wonderful videos!

  4. This is my second or third time watching this video. You are amazing. I love your videos and am super happy I found your channel. Thanks for also making this video kind of funny at the beginning with the clicker and dog appearing in hand πŸ˜‚

  5. I love your videos. It’s helped a lot with training my anxious pitbull/gsd mix. Your tips help us out a lot since I’ve never had a dog with her kind of temperament

    1. Oh but Dragondonnv2 you can train humans too! πŸ™‚ This is just in terms of if you want to train a dog with a clicker.

    2. Cat clickers aren’t as loud as dog clickers. They don’t make them in box form since they’ll scare cats but are still loud enough to do the job for the pups😍

  6. I’ve ordered a clicker. I’ve an Australian Shepherd and she just won’t stop barking at strangers, passers by as they try to enjoy a peaceful walk, she runs right up to them barking, kids at the park, kids just trying to have fun, visitors (friends) to our house, driving us crazy.

    1. I suggest getting help from a trainer who uses positive reinforcement to help you. As you can do training setups where the trainer can use decoy dogs and people to practice with rather than train out and about which is most likely too much for your dog. It is important to manage and prevent the dog from barking until the training starts and during the training by keeping enough distance between your dog and people that your dog feels safe and calm. This might mean that you have to take the dog out on a leash and harness when going in your own yard to go to the bathroom, so that the dog cannot run to the fence to see what is going on. I am sorry you are having this issue but it is very common for herding breeds.

  7. Thank you! I wondered how you got your box clickers to be quieter and now I know! I love box clickers and find them easier than the button clickers but they are sooo loud! Now I know how to make them quieter. πŸ™‚ Brilliant!

  8. I make a clicking-like sound with my tongue, to draw puppy’s wandering attention to me. Then I use hand or head signal, for him to do this or that. Then, giving the puppy more time to go through certain training demands, I also reduce the number of treats. I have seen too many people wanting super-dogs in matter of weeks or months, and then keep frantically clicking and feeding them with treats for everything they want from poor dogs. That creates lots of problems.

  9. I’ve worked with Goxxly doing remote sessions and he recommended watching this video for clicker training.

I am in the middle of doing puppy school. I told the trainer I wanted to teach my dog clicker training but he didn’t recommend it for puppies and I thought that was odd.

My Abby is a between 6-7 months (she’s a rescue so not 100% sure). Is it too early for a clicker? Is it too late for one?

I really love your channel, you and the positive trainers have changed my attitude 100%.

  10. This is brilliant (and thank you for a concise video, much appreciated!) I pet sit for a dog who’s treats are in a jar on the mantle, dead center of the living room. She’s given treats randomly if she sits on her mat next to the fireplace. You guessed it, every single time I get up to cross the room she leaps up, runs to the mat, and begs. I’ve gotten to where I sit in the dining room and watch tv on my computer much of the time to avoid this behavior.

  11. Always great for a refresher, I can’t thank you enough Emily, for the content you have created over the years, it has been so valuable to me!
